Seminar Week 5/12 ✅ @truettseminary Seminar #4 - Montgomery Seminar #4 A week so jam packed it needs more than one post Seminar #3 - Homiletic Theory with @matthew.d.kim - Another amazing residency week in Waco at @truettseminary despite the weather challenges that led to my flights being cancelled and delayed for several days. Thankful that we were able to press on through Zoom and each day I got closer to campus until we could be there together in person Wednesday afternoon. This class has given me space to think about how I approach preaching by exploring the theories of others. I presented on Trauma Informed Preaching then preached a sermon using the guidelines from the book Unspeakable by Sarah Travis. The process and the practice continues to help me see I am called to preach, God is refining my skills, and giving me space to grow. I trust he will guide me in all the next steps. So thankful to classmates for their scholarship, friendship, and hospitality. Each class has grown my appreciation for this group and I’m excited about our next class together in March! It’s great to look back and see what books were shaping my thought last year. In the beginning of the year I was finishing up my ThM, then took a summer sabbatical and got to enjoy some “for fun” reading. In the fall, I began my required PhD reading. Thankful to all these authors for the work they’ve done to bring their words into the world for others to benefit from. Reflecting back on another amazing residency week in Waco for the PhD in Preaching at Baylor University’s Truett Seminary. I’m starting to catch the rhythm of these intensive weeks. While I was in Waco I got to attend a Baylor Libraries Author Series event for the book “We Follow Christ.” This book continues to move the needle on women’s participation in God’s calling by sharing the stories of women pursuing ministry in different fields, both secular and sacred. The panel discussion by the editors gave a strong argument for why this book is necessary right now. Women need to see other women following God in different spaces to gain an imagination for all that is possible, and encouragement to keep going when it’s difficult. Had an amazing three days at the 2025 Evangelical Homiletics Society meeting. Lift Every Voice was the theme and I am so thankful to the professors and staff at @truettseminary for their commitment to seeing minoritized voices in preaching unmuted. It was great to finally meet the other PhD students in the program and reconnect with the ones I already know. I felt welcome and wanted and I’m already excited about next year!
